About the Job
Overview
This position is with the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) in Washington, D.C., providing customer service support across all bureaus. The role involves managing customer interactions via phone, email, and in-person, along with administrative tasks that support agency operations. Applications will be considered for grades 6, 7, and 8.
Salary Ranges

Grade 6: $46,437 – $60,999

Grade 7: $51,456 – $67,548

Grade 8: $56,503 – $72,721
Responsibilities
Welcome and greet visitors, respond to inquiries, and refer to appropriate destinations
Manage files, documents, and employee records
Provide information to employees and the public
Plan, organize, and implement daily office activities
Stay updated on agency operations to respond effectively to inquiries
Perform basic administrative support duties
Refer unresolved issues for further investigation and follow up
Distribute, review, and collect forms and applications
Perform other related duties as assigned
Qualifications
Grade 6
Knowledge of customer service principles and needs assessment
Ability to operate computer equipment and Microsoft Office applications
Strong oral and written communication skills
Professional, tactful, and courteous demeanor
Grade 7
Knowledge of administrative and customer service procedures
Document management skills including filing, archiving, scanning, and drafting correspondences
Ability to interpret and apply relevant laws and guidelines
Problem-solving, research, and data entry skills
Proficient in Microsoft Office and internet applications
Ability to handle difficult or uncooperative individuals professionally
Grade 8
Thorough knowledge of administrative and customer service procedures
Ability to interpret laws, guidelines, and MPD organizational units
Extensive customer service experience and problem-solving skills
Strong document management and multitasking abilities
Excellent communication skills and professional demeanor
Proficient in Microsoft Office and internet applications
Education
High school diploma or equivalent required
Work Experience

Grade 6: 1+ year specialized customer service experience (CS-05 level or equivalent)

Grade 7: 1+ year specialized experience (CS-06 level or equivalent)

Grade 8: 1+ year specialized experience (CS-07 level or equivalent)
Work Environment
Office setting at MPD locations throughout D.C., involving document management and interactions with the public
Other Information
Promotion potential to grades 7/8
Security-sensitive position requiring background checks and possibly drug/alcohol tests
Valid motor vehicle operator’s permit required
Grades 6 and 7 participate in the Pathways to Government Employment Partnership Program with priority for D.C. residents
