Description


The Staff Accountant is responsible for supporting and delivering on department initiatives. The Staff Accountant performs duties related to a variety of accounting functions and supporting the department under the guidance and direction of the Controller and Senior Accountant.


Examples of Duties


Essential Functions


  • Review all AP disbursements for internal controls, proper tax applications, and supporting documentation.
  • Preparation and review of various monthly account and system to system reconciliations. 
  • Prepare monthly bank reconciliations. 
  • Prepare monthly sale and use reporting forms to government entities and ensure tax compliance. 
  • Prepare annual unclaimed property reporting. 
  • Analyze and Prepare accounting journal entries for sub-ledger and general ledger updates.
  • Comply with and adhere to all Loyola policies in a professional manner, independently and with minimal oversight.
  • Assist in achieving department/function initiatives and Loyola goals through cross-training.
  • Actively participate in ad-hoc projects. 
  • Identify opportunities and recommend methods to improve service, work processes and financial performance (e.g., procedure optimization). Assist in the implementation of quality improvement initiatives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Typical Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree with a concentration in Accounting, Business, Finance or related field.
  • Minimum of three (3) years' experience in accounting staff level position.
  • Demonstrated experience in strategic fiscal management is preferred.
  • Understanding of accounting principles (GAAP, FASB) specific to nonprofit organizations.
  • Must have strong account reconciliation skills. 
  • Must possess the following human relations and interpersonal skills:
  • High degree of professionalism including the ability to maintain strict levels of confidentiality.
  • Effective conflict resolution skills with the ability to encourage consensus and teamwork.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with diverse groups of individuals and to adapt communication to the audience and the situation. 
  • Must be flexible and adapt to change with differing responsibilities and deadlines, in a self-motivated and pro-active manner either independently or as part of an effective team. 
  • Must be computer literate with the capability of performing at an intermediate or above level with Microsoft Office Suite of products (e.g. Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point).
  • Must be computer literate with or have the ability to learn quickly Enterprise Resource Planning software.
  • May require overtime work for certain times during the year or on an as-needed basis.
  • May require evening and weekend work.
