POSITION SUMMARY


The Communications Specialist supports the district’s strategic communications with a focus on website management, graphic design, and social media. This role leads the design, maintenance, and ongoing improvement of the district’s website to ensure a user-friendly and accessible experience. The Specialist creates high-quality visual content for both digital and print platforms and manages the district’s social media presence to highlight student success, staff excellence, and school culture. Additional responsibilities may include photography, videography, and support for district events. The position also provides training and technical support to building-level staff to strengthen school communications. Through effective visual storytelling and digital engagement, the Communications Specialist helps promote transparency, build community trust, and elevate the Dublin City Schools brand.



JOB QUALIFICATIONS


  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, marketing, graphic design, digital media, or a related field
  • Minimum 5 years of professional experience in communications, preferably in a public sector, education, or nonprofit setting
  • Demonstrated experience managing websites (e.g., CMS platforms such as Finalsite, WordPress, or similar)
  • Proficiency in graphic design tools such as Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) and Canva
  • Understanding of social media strategy and content creation across platforms (Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Nextdoor, etc.)
  • Basic photo and video skills (capturing, editing, and optimizing content for web/social)
  • Excellent writing, editing, and storytelling skills with strong attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and work collaboratively with school and district staff
  • Knowledge of accessibility standards and digital best practices is a plus

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES


  • Strong organizational abilities, including planning, task organization, and plan facilitation
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Proficiency in using social media platforms, website content management systems, databases, and other communication tools
  • Solid understanding of analytics and ability to track social media metrics to inform strategy and decision-making
  • Ability to conceptualize and execute district-wide digital campaigns
  • Knowledge of content trends, platform algorithms, and user engagement strategies
  • The capacity to coach others on digital and visual communication best practices
  • Creative thinker with strong storytelling instincts across formats (video, written, visual)
  • Understanding of brand management and alignment with organizational mission
  • Professionalism to collaborate with the Superintendent, board members, staff members, volunteers, and students
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work under time constraints and to be flexible in an environment of multiple tasks and changing priorities
  • Self-starter; Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Ability to work well as a team member
  • Ability to build rapport with various groups of stakeholders
  • Ability to attend events at night and on the weekends, as needed



ESSENTIAL DUTIES


  • Develops and manages a comprehensive digital communication strategy aligned with district goals, promoting Dublin City Schools’ programs, initiatives, and achievements
  • Maintains and enhances the district website using Finalsite Composer or other content management systems, with a focus on accessibility, design, content accuracy, and user experience
  • Creates engaging digital and print content—including graphics, photos, videos, and infographics—to support campaigns, district messaging, and storytelling across platforms
  • Manages and grows the district’s presence on social media platforms (e.g., Facebook, Instagram, X/Twitter, YouTube, LinkedIn), including content creation, scheduling, monitoring, and community engagement
  • Collaborates with school and district staff to identify stories and repurpose content (e.g., news releases, blog posts, long-form pieces) for DCS Today, newsletters, and digital platforms
  • Provides training, templates, and technical support to school staff managing building-level websites and social media accounts to ensure brand alignment and content quality
  • Monitors digital analytics across platforms to inform strategy, improve engagement, and produce performance reports for leadership
  • Assists with photo and video production, including capturing, editing, and producing multimedia content for campaigns and events
  • Coordinates with external vendors for creative or video projects as needed
  • Supports district events and communication campaigns through digital promotion and design
  • Stays current on industry trends, best practices, and emerging tools to continually improve communications strategy
  • Performs other duties and special projects as assigned in support of district communications and engagement goals
  • Ensures the safety of all students
