Public Relations Specialist / Executive Staff Assistant
Office of the Tooele City Mayor
Tooele City is seeking a seasoned professional to serve as the Public Relations Specialist / Executive Staff Assistant in support of the Mayor.
As a key member of the Mayor's executive team, this position acts on behalf of the Mayor, performing professional and complex duties while managing sensitive issues with sound judgment, discretion, and professionalism. The incumbent sets the standard for administrative excellence within the City and is at the forefront of advancing its administrative capabilities, ensuring consistent, effective communication with the public and media.
Key Responsibilities Include
- Maintain trust and confidence of the Mayor while supporting the Mayor's goals and strategies, and managing confidential and sensitive matters.
- Provide high-level administrative, organizational, and public relations support to the Mayor, including management of scheduling, communications, and constituent services for the Mayor's Office.
- Serve as liaison and spokesperson on behalf of the Mayor with citizens, staff, media, and outside agencies, and represent the Mayor at meetings and events, as assigned.
- Oversee and administer the City's website and social media platforms.
- Develop and implement marketing and branding strategies to promote Tooele City and increase public engagement; Perform technical duties requiring application of web administration, interface needs, hosting, and problem resolution.
- Serve as the City's Public Information Officer; coordinate media relations, speak on behalf of the City, and prepare press releases and public notices.
- Provides leadership to other administrative staff and lead projects or initiatives as needed.
- Stays abreast of technology, administrative practices, and software applications demonstrating best practices in efficiency and application of innovation.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with departments, community partners, and the public.
Qualifications

- Broad knowledge of business administration, marketing, communications, and public services.
- Advanced education in business administration, public administration, public relations, or a related field preferred (or similar combination of training and experience).
- Progressive experience supporting mid- to executive-level leadership in complex environments.
- Experience supporting an executive with complex budgets, contract administration, and special projects or research.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in website content management, social media platforms, and modern software applications used in an office environment.
- Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and manage competing priorities.
Schedule
Generally Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM-5:00 PM, with flexibility required to meet the needs of the Mayor including availability for periodic evenings, weekends, holidays, and emergency public relations responses on short notice.
